No idea why I’m thinking about this, but in high school I did an art project where I approached strangers on the streets and photographed them while they described their darkest fears. 

Most of them described being alone or being sick and unable to take care of the people around them

Wild. Such an intriguing project with a lasting lesson/observation (or something like that).

I’m unfortunately not in NYC, and the project has been lost since high school was many many years ago! 

What I found interesting is that people appeared rather all stoic when describing their deepest fears, maybe I was a dumb teenager that couldn’t bring out their vulnerability or ask the right questions, or maybe that they felt so afraid of being vulnerable to that fear.

That's genius. And, totally fascinating. Not sure if you are willing to share, but I would truly love to see this. Would even meet up in NYC and buy you a coffee (or whatever) for the chance to see.

I often ask people I meet the first time what the deepest fear is (it’s an ice breaker okay 🥹) 

I usually get losing family and they occasionally “not living up to my potential”

sounds a bit creepy... teenagers, they're like that 😂
