agree but also twitter is not going in the direction of "social network". it goes in the direction of "social media", where it's more about consuming content from big accounts than vibing with your friends

By necessity true social networks lean into strengthening intra and cross ties between groups. 

That’s the whole point of a network in the first place.

Yes but it’s mostly an issue of classification imo. 

All “social media platforms” today have morphed into “performance media platforms” because building loops for people to make virally engaging content is what makes money.

Not to mention them throwing away an iconic brand. The decision makers are just surrounding themselves by "yes" people and an army of zealots who worship at the altar of the cult of personality. Not exactly a community you *want* to interact with.

It feels like Twitter is going in the wrong direction — no dedicated moderation resources (e.g. scams, bots, trolling, platform manipulation still rampant), misaligned incentives (payouts are encouraging the worst kind of social media experience), getting rid of blocking (?), etc.

true. bot scourge is winning. 

& ppl are approaching the problem the wrong way, imo. answer doesn't lie in building new apps, fixing old ones, tweaking algos, etc. these "solutions" just add to the big problem: fragmentation. 

breaking down barriers b/w existing networks is the only way to build a stronger network
