Speed mostly. And I don't find banks to be very reliable sometimes; too many delays, barriers and hoops to jump through that I don't get with self-custody. I'm usually broke so accessing what little funds I have is important.

And finding the right payment app is always a pain with banks anyway. I can send USDC to any account without having to download cashappalvenzellesquaremo or whatever.
