Recently I have seen 5 videos of decapitated children in Gaza, of parents and rescue workers cradling the disembodied heads of children. Today, I saw a young girl with half of her mouth missing, the other half hanging off by a shred of skin. I could go on and on, I've seen bodies flattened & broken by tank treds. I am disturbed by how inured people are, where did our culture go wrong to accept this violence? When I talk about it, some people justify (!) why those children must die. I feel so alienated from a culture that doesn't just accept this violence, but even glorifies it. Under every video, I'll read replies mocking the dead, making jokes about their slaughter. I don't know what to do, I feel helpless and ashamed to live in a society that is so violent, that discards human life so cheaply from the comfort of our televisions and iphones thousands of miles away. I don't talk about it here because we don't really talk about politics on Farcaster, but I can't stop thinking about it.

I am with you 100% I am disgusted that my taxes are funding a genocide. I am horrified that modern humans are capable of such atrocities. When I think about it, I feel helpless and hopeless and spiral into a genuine depression. What can we possibly do?

I’m grateful to haven’t seen these videos. I’m sad to know they exist. We should normalize condemning violence and cruelties, without modifiers or feeling the need to provide context. Not everything needs to be explained or justified, some things can be plain bad in a vacuüm.

Glad you shared this. Just like people 'find each other online' to start building / making money, we can also use these tools to coordinate and take action to support solidarity, justice and peace. Just like anything, requires a few passionate people to be a catalyst.

i share in your horror and tbh i can no longer watch. The terrible reality is that humans are so easily brainwashed and programmed, we now know how the Nazis came to be: slowly remove the humanity from people until we are no longer unified. thanks for speaking out, there are more like us here

i feel the same P. saw a child's body impaled into a half broken wall with rebar, leg completely missing. i truly don't understand the justification or glorification of any of it.

You're not alone in feeling this. Those videos are horrible, there is no justification in war like this. I also find it difficult to understand, my country has never had a conflict like it so it's confusing and scary. It's so difficult to speak about because it's incredibly polarised. I just try to think this isn't new for humans and at least there is still beauty in the world. Chin up 🫶

I'm worried it was always like this, only now because of the sacrifices of Gaza journalists, killed by dozens, and social media - we see it close... Before when you read and watch western media, it was all dismissed as "separatists", "pirates' "terrorists", "proxies", "collateral damage" etc. I was thinking that in East Europe communism our media were full of lies but turns out that was nothing compared to the West war-justifying machines...

I feel the same. I feel also stuck between having the luxury of "reducing my circle of control" to attempt to be there for my partner and kids, etc. but it is rediculous how this is occuring and how it's being funded. I just don't know what to do.

Please talk about it. We HAVE to talk about stuff that hurts and shocks people if that’s the right thing to do. I want to talk about abuse but get frustrated every time i do. or other female issues. but you know what? if you don’t talk about it, nobody will so DO IT social media should be a mirror of society and we can’t be so numb I don’t see such videos anymore, not because they don’t shock me, but because i feel like it’s out of my reach and seeing it only makes me burn inside. I’m taken by wishes of revenge and moral questions. I keep asking myself if adopting s child from such environment would be a favor or another issue. About how can I help. about why we forget wars after they last some months. I feel lost. But definitely not numb. Talk about it! 100 $degen

Many people are with this same sentiment. It's maddening to see how disassociated so many can be from the violence that they've been propagandised to except. What we see in Gaza is an extension of colonialism spanning centuries. The British Empire deliberately sought unrest in the middle-east to prevent otherwise resource rich countries from forming alliances. American Empire has taken this to an industrial scale, unmatched by any previous Empire in history. You are right to feel uneasy, just as you are right to speak of it, as we all should, no matter the consequences. Everything we've been told is a lie. Institutions have been corrupted to perpetuate the lies told to us as truth. If anything, the horror of Gaza has lifted this veil for all to see. There will be pushback, denial, vilification, justification, obfuscation... power does not relent without a fight. I feel utter despair often. People can be so glib in the face of such horror, unaware these very same acts cast a shadow on all our souls...
