the first part yes agree, but frankly the latter part is not universally true. i’ve made $10k+ from TikTok and gotten invited to interesting opportunities with interesting people as a result of posting on it. same can be said about many users on TikTok — especially those who have made friends, learned something new, found a favorite product, etc.

TikTok only exists because of user generated content. But users don’t get anything except a sense of pride and accomplishment.

i have mixed feelings on this

on one hand, she could’ve made $$ at someone else’s expense (she’s not really a “creator”, just captured a moment made possible by Coldplay) but she didn’t; it was just status quo social media

on the other hand, she captured a viral moment that unified the entire internet and gets nothing for it except millions of likes and tens of thousands of followers

idk man. you can post all the meme's you want but if you haven't made anything cool, I have 0 interest in following you -- art music code video blog book etc. 

also tiktok's mission was anyone can be a celebrity in 1 day, celebs don't make $ from views, its from their core skills -- sports, film, music etc.

it can amplify your 'thing' b/c now people are going to look up who she is and her profile. i do that will developer blogs all the time. they post something catchy and I go find their blogs/github. its just an amplifier and if you have nothing to amplify then ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
