Let’s clear up some misunderstandings about channels! 1. You don’t get a distribution or algorithm boost for casting into a channel (You used to, but those days are over)! 2. Cast into channels because: - You like the channel and the people in it (community) - You want to chat with others about a particular topic (food, books, screens) 3. All channels are setup differently. Some are open to all, some are membership based. Unfortunately not all hosts/mods are caught up on all the channel changes. Some channels have a link on their page with how to join or a pinned post telling you the details. All channels *should* have this, but don’t. 4. If you are a channel host, consider opening your channel to all (change to public/everyone) or add @curabot to your channel to help new folks be automatically invited to your channel!

So it’s not a distribution boost as in it doesn’t boost u in the timeline or necessary for content to be seen but an organic one by making sure to share relevant content to a channel which ppl may check or follow is how I’m understanding?

If people don’t follow you and you cast to a channel, the only way most people will see it is if they are actively scrolling the channel. I have notifications on for all my channels. Many super dedicated mods do too, so we see it. We’ve been told that most users really only focus on their home feed. The only way you’ll end up on strangers home feeds is because people they follow recasted, commented, or liked your post. There used to be some algorithm bumps so these rumors are hard to squash and there were some recent experiments with putting them into the home feed but it didn’t work out to drive a lot of engagement.

Ok this makes sense and preferred from me because trying to categorize things in channels was stressful thinking I had to be in one to be even be seen still and not always knowing the right channel to put it
