Maybe I’m crazy, but I consider myself a capitalist and just don’t really understand this logic. Feels like being a reasonable logical person with nuanced opinions has completely faded. All that’s left is Mamdani or Thiel. Gemini’s black founding fathers or Grok’s mechahitler. Pick a side https://x.com/garrytan/status/1942992514954224025?s=46

I’ve been talking to many socialists about thing on here for the last week. It comes down to the black and white question of should our goal as a society be to eliminate all billionaires or to make everyone a billionaire? I’m not saying either is going to happen, but the policy decisions based on your choice are very different. That being said, I think best case is that technology could make it so costs trend to zero and that having a billion dollars doesn’t actually buy you much more that having less. To me, that’s a definition of everyone “being billionaires” and is a much better goal than redistribution wealth so that billionaires don’t exist

no need to understand the logic, there is no logic in someone singlehandedly destroying the historic reputation of the last generation of tech seed capital

It’s really about not accentuating the wealth gap and the rich people being like the Medici family to create more opportunity for those have nots. Because the private sector has way more money than the public sector and we’re letting the public sector fall apart at the same time.

I think this was an own goal from Garry for a few reasons. > "We should have more billionaires" isn't confident. > The way you say it if you believe it is "More Billionaires" > but if you are wearing a t-shirt that says "More Billionaires" you get at the crux of all of this.

I think he is saying that a rising tide lifts all boats. Think about how rare a millionaire used to be, now many people are millionaires. It comes off a HORRIBLY TONE DEAF but I understand why, the goal is abundance for all because the economy is not a 0-sum game.

It should be easier to get wealthy, and harder to stay wealthy. I think a lot of people don't realize that once you hit $10m you hit a free money glitch and it's basically impossible for a reasonable person to spend money fast enough to have their net worth go down. Money beyond $100m is pretty much just a game, and would be put to better use funding quality of life improvements for people in need. If someone builds and sells a lot of cool shit, I'm fine with them being a billionaire. That's not actually what's happening though most of the time.
