I think the first thing that has to go is this shortlist of influential people that are dominating the Farcaster feed since I joined in January 2024. Let's call them the OGs. The OGs that were on the autofollow list and gained 1000s of followers in early 2024 by design are now deciding who ranks high on the rewards leaderboard. You can easily spot OGs in the trending feed, they are there every single day. Their casts are trending even without any engagement. These OGs also decide when your casts are trending and pushed by the algo by engaging with your cast.

Only a handful of new people(dogs?) have made it since then. They're doing well and most of the time, they deserve the credit. But this only happened because the OGs paved the way. In some cases, the newcomers even became OGs themselves.

Appreciate you sharing this perspective. The autofollow list definitely shaped the early days, but I think were still figuring out the best ways to help new voices break through One thing I've seen work: surfacing more new builders and apps, especially via bounties or curated lists (shout out to @chuckstock's starter pack). It's not perfect yet, the protocol's still evolving, and the team is always open to feedback on how to make the trending feed more dynamic

I feel the same. However, I must say that some of the OGs have welcomed me well to FC. But just a few. Me, being an OG on Lens have helped lots of people, projects and apps getting the visibility they deserve there. See it also here, but just a minority helps newcomers… Oh, and also I find it not fair that “frens” of FC Team members are shilled all the time. They should be more impartial/neutral. Or shill everybody who’s new 😄

Perhaps we need to rethink the starter packs on sign up? They drive influence towards a select group and the issue self-perpetuates when new folk onboard. 💜Bx

Finally, finally, finally—someone took action on this issue! Much love to you, buddy. I’ve been casting about this every day, every week, every month—why are the OGs not getting any boost, while new spammy accounts and grinders are climbing the leaderboard? These accounts are posting just 1 to 3 casts a day and still getting high scores, and it feels like the Farcaster support team is helping them rise. Meanwhile, our OG accounts—who’ve been active and consistently posting—are being completely ignored. We’re getting zero likes, zero views. It’s honestly frustrating. Honestly, if I said that’s really bad happening with our OG account because now we are back to the space if we wanna go up but the algorithm is literally destroying us we are not here for the money. We are here for the support community of and again enjoyment vibes. but because of these things deserve when people are getting die and spammer and grinder taking advantage

Yeah there’s definitely an issue with flow of attention and incentive structure but it’s crypto so there’s always an inherent attention race to the bottom issue
