Wikipedia is the utopia project that actually worked. It’s incredible how consistently useful it has been as a baseline information source for so many years. The inclusion of a democratic culture through community editors turned out to be the winning formula for executing such an ambitious project. Genuinely impressive achievement.

Never an authoritative source, but very frequently a good place to start. I wouldn’t look up anything controversial, though, or it’s likely to be in a constant state of editor dispute and not impartial. Compared to how I had to find out things when I was a kid?! It’s a miracle.

Remember when we all thought it was a template that could be replicated, and not the exception that proves the rule?

Since almost any user can become an editor, the quality of information can vary and sometimes articles containing errors or subjective views appear. Problems with translations into some languages. It's utopia when everyone starts respecting each other and checking sources carefully. When I was studying we were forbidden to quote material from wikipedia and absolutely always check everything and cite sources. When the Russian-Ukrainian war started I was writing an article about it, there was little information about it, wikipedia did not have time to update. Difficult Also wikipedia is like web3. We own the information and our own data and we should be responsible for it.

And, they do a pretty great job with community fundraising -- something like $160M+ annually From WF: The average single donation is about $15 USD, and the average monthly donation is about $4 USD
