Chat — when did blatant racist rhetoric like this become acceptable? That too, from a *checks notes* Partner at a top-tier VC firm. This is a genuine question (I would truly appreciate counterpoints or any opinions that further meaningful dialogue). I’ve publicly criticized Mamdani’s policy platform (as many have) but positioning lying as a *virtue* of both his culture and Islam is disgusting. Rent freezes are a bad idea, but I don’t think Islam is to blame? Bernie Sanders also supports rent freezes and he’s Jewish? Is backlash—and I’m talking specifically about people who have a platform/voice—contained more so because they: - generally agree with this sentiment - don’t agree but think cultural/religious slander is okay in a political context - don’t agree but feel it’s not worth speaking out

My guess is it's a mix of 1. there's some sort of group chat insider definition of "islamist" that does not include all muslims but includes those they deem on a crusade to destroy America 2. people are afraid to speak up and lose access to capital 3. people are accepting of racism right now

> when did blatant racist rhetoric like this become acceptable vibe-shift after Trump got elected again. personally I actually prefer for people to be open about what they really think, whether I agree or not, whether it's offensive or not

I expect that this will be a reputational hit for him longer term. Definitely racist. That being said I think extreme ideas and polarizing politics have let a ton of things slide on both sides. Kanye's album is still on all platforms

When Elon took over Twitter, he lifted the ban on hoards of white supremacists, and they took over the platform. At the same time he banned several legitimate journalists and people working for human rights. The only way to appease the algorithm now is to be a racist shithead, so that's what everyone over there did.

This is by no means a defense of Shaun, but instead an ask for information: I’m assuming that he’s referring to “Taqiyya”, which I’ve read is traditionally explained as not revealing your religion when threatened or under duress, but a Muslim man, a peer, also once told me that it has a more modern definition closer to what Shaun is saying. Can you clarify based on your understanding? Again, I mean for this to be solely informational and I am not attempting to defend any bigotry. I think understanding of words and customs is what helps to avoid misunderstandings
