Is this the channel for proud parent moments? As the parent of older teens, my parenting philosophy can pretty much be summed up into promoting independence over achievement. In a world where most of the parents I know are hyper focused on helping their kids get good grades so they can get into a top college, I intentionally focused on helping my kids develop self awareness and independence. Anyway, oldest is home from freshman year at college and the other night she told us we did a good job because we “let them do things on their own”, while she sees her friends parents “doing everything for them”. I almost cried when she told me this- because it’s what I want for her. To grow into adulthood with confidence and independence. Parenting is hard. Feedback loops are measured in decades or more lol. So feels good to hear her say she liked our approach.
