Had a very interesting long run today. First time I am trying a progressive long. My normal progression is downwards as fatigue sets in. The workout was - 5 mins very slow, 06:09 - 07:10 pace. That was hard to pinpoint with the GPS pace) - 20 mins slow, 05:22 -06:09 pace. Also hard to progress on this one as GPS pace jumped a lot. - 60 mins base, 04:47-05:22. I tried to progressively go from one edge of the range to the other within the 60 mins. - 20 mins fast, 04:18-04:47. That was quite a bit more painful. Tried to also progress to faster range within the 20 mins but harder to think when pushing it while tired already. - 10 mins cooldown Overall I think I did the workout and it was a success. The challenge is to increase pace once you have comfortably settled at a specific pace.

I really love progressive runs. They are the best for me. I ran my first 10k last month like this. And it felt very good at the end. But many people complain about progressive running because they say they cannot increase the speed at the end no matter how slow they start. For me, it just works well.
