They’re a few steps behind us is all, with some offset because they actually are better in other ways — more physical activity, for example People that want to blame US food for being uniquely bad have a personal responsibility issue It’s not MY fault im fat!!! Our food is made by global conglomerates by and large we all get roughly the same things t

as a non american — hence no personal responsibility bias — let me disagree. there is much more legacy trash food in US supermarkets than in EU. Average household quality of food in US is worse than in EU. So US and EU do not get roughly the same. My anecdotal opinion. I agree with car argument from shazow too

you I would have agreed with you 5 years ago. But I started blaming ppl a bit less bc environment does play a huge role on avg person. there are always conscious outliers but avg person is just does what is a "norm" in their society. a bit too tired to articulate more comprehensively, but I think you get me, as always

I do, but I don’t think you can legislate this out of people If UK and Italy have same food regs but UK still way unhealthier because of what the people there choose to buy I am not sure what moves the needle — how to fix culture I believe people understand what is bad for you, and that it’s not fully an education issue, although I’ve wondered if front of package labels in US could help

besides culture, convenience can be another factor. I think it's way easier to eat worse food in US (maybe I am wrong). It requires much more planning, search, and shopping time to really get healthier food which is an additional hurdle. you can say ppl are lazy, but the more additional hurdles they are the more "innocent" the less responsibility you can expect from ppl. like you have more selection of trashy breads, trashy sodas etc and they are more available than healthy food. you spent less mental energy getting them And regarding education, I believe not always do people understand what is bad for them, definitely not to the extend me and you do if we compare an avg american to us.
