Holding / depositing a coin unlocks a feature that gives you access to credit and a vote on how to deploy additional credit. 

+ the protocol is still in early days so I can see more features being unlocked as days go on

I think holding to unlock features is an effective way to provide real utility for an app's native token. Some projects even require staking/locking tokens (with delayed unstaking) to further reduce selling pressure.

However, I've noticed that many apps eventually revert to fixed monthly or yearly subscription fees instead. probabaly subscriptions offer more predictable revenue in the long term.
