The current Farcaster experience: Good: bots and spam get removed from network, there's less spam overall, leads to better interactions, trustable Bad: people care about their follow counts whether they admitted or not -- it's hard to trust your follower count if they keep going up and down randomly, but mostly down

For me Farcaster is the only platform I actively use where I don’t care about follow count After a little introspection I think it’s because I’ve been running well-loved brand accounts on here like @rainbow and @base So I still get to interact with the community at large, but also yell into the void personally

Hopefully, this will make us care about followers a little less

I hardly check and I’ve but I’ve had 3 new follows in 2 months. Followed (basically everyone) a lot. No stress. 😎

Agreed… the randomly downward follow count triggers loss aversion… feels bad man even if I *know* it’s bots or whatever

Some users are getting removed from the network even without violating any rules. A selfie verification system could help clearly differentiate real people from bots in my opinion

I’m new to Farcaster. Why do followers go up and down? This isn’t really a problem I know on other socials

Follower count is the only legit way we notice the spam algo working its way. I love the fact that Farcaster tries to weed out bots, because I enjoy genuine conversations, if I really want to converse with bots, I will just chat with AI

I’m fine with my count going down tbh bc it hasn’t been that drastic and it makes me realize that slow, natural growth is better than being highlighted by big farcaster accounts to bloat up the leaderboard and follow count

A tangent to your point here: As a newbie, I try to discover more accounts (via starter packs, channels) and I follow back everyone who shows signs of life. Still, it surprises me how few I’m following relative to followers. In my ideal world, follower and following ratio would be 1:1 - a true community - but I know that can’t really happen.
