Take: Crypto Needs to Adopt a Culture of Martyrdom
The most successful form of decentralized political organization is a terrorist group. They succeed, in part, because their members have a willingness to sacrifice and reward people who make sacrifices, i.e. through foundations producing media glorifying, providing financial support to their families, etc. This breeds resilience and relentlessness.
In crypto, however, there's a culture of hedonism (focus on individual gains, pvp), victim blaming (i.e. so and so got dumped on? they're dumb. so and so got hacked? what a rube), as well as making excuses for elites whose behavior hurts normal people (i.e. money raised to defend the Tornado Cash devs, who facilitated the theft of literal billions from everyday crypto people.
So if we want crypto to succeed and avoid capture, we should think about how to honor and recognize the sacrifices of the proletariat over the builder/vc/protocol dev industrial complex. 1 reply
