To cut spam, Degen app will require phone verification: 1 number = 1 account. We don’t get your identity—just proof you’re real. No anon mode for now. If you’re ok with this, lmk. If not, suggest better ways to verify. We want your input.

I’ve been using the same wallet for over 5 years now. You can see my on-chain history — it’s public. I can understand stopping fresh wallets but the idea that you have no other way to verify a user’s “realness” is lazy and disappointing.

Totally get it—most power users like you value privacy and have rich on-chain history. We’re using embedded wallets, and phone helps curb abuse. Curious though—what’s the main blocker for you?

Giving out my phone number. I'll never do that. For anyone. For any reason. I don't care how much you try and dress up how transient and secure it is. Not happening. Especially not when there's plenty of rich on-chain public data already available to use.

Out of curiosity though: when you signed up for Farcaster, didn’t you use a credit card? That’s arguably more invasive than a phone number, yet most people still do it without blinking. We’re not collecting phone numbers to track, spam, or identify you personally. It’s simply a layer we use to manage access and prevent abuse, especially in early stages.

I funded via ETH on Optimism - I was able to create an account without linking IRL to the best of my memory and knowledge.
