When it comes to world design, what do you prefer? Open world, linear world or branching linear world? If it was in my hands... I would ban every developer from doing open world games. I can't think of a single game other than Outer Wilds where the open world actually added anything to the game...

Hm, I tend to prefer linear world overall. I don’t immediately go for an open world game, narratively speaking I’ve been burned before (cyberpunk and BG3 being exceptions). But I agree w/you. Now, it’s used as a marketing ploy that it takes away from other components and just saturates what could’ve been.

Fromsoftwares intricate world design with dope art style. Elden ring was dope tho but there is never a better feeling then after playing for days comming back to to a old place trough some weird door or cave 😂

I would not ban it entirely. In some games the freedom of choice was great. Rdr with a linear World would not be as good as it was. Kinda limited like the old assasins creed games would work for most

Open world is really hard to pull off, best examples for me are Rain World and Outer Wilds. With time I ended up hating open or semi open worlds. For example I hated the semi-open areas of the new God of War. Loved just rushing through the story

i appreciate open worlds when they're done right, ik how you feel about elden ring but exploring that world was just amazing to me, i think ds1 is the perfect world design because it all loops back together eventually

Preferably branching linear or divided into chapters where every chapter is open. Open worlds aren't doing it for me, Witcher 3 being an exception
