dev question: can I create farcaster "read-only" accounts? 

read-only account as I imagine
- low price = pay for gas fees, but not for storage
- can connect an auth address
- cannot post, like or recast

hmm so either make this work with lending storage out or wait for cheaper storage. I thought there was some discussion on buying smaller fractions of storage?

IdGateway prevents registering FIDs without storage so you need to buy at least 1 unit

Yeah, the most minimal account is just a fid. But we might be enforcing storage payment at the contract level on register, so it’s not really that different from a normal account. You just save gas on registering signers.

auth addresses are onchain iirc so you could use the contracts to register and fid + chain

But not have a profile picture, display name etc.

You can register with only 1 unit of storage, for roughly 20 cents.

main challenge with enabling these is someone will write a script that creates thousands of FIDs per block which will cause annoying thrash for snapchain and every downstream consumer

we know bc we originally had it this way and this is what happened

but might be something we turn back on eventually as it makes sense with storage lending, but might need some arbitrary fee like 1c per fid or something to discourage "fid mining"
