@j4ck.eth
me: "hi, yes, i'd like to create an ENS subdomain please" ENS: "great, that'll be $69" me: "...... it's usually like $7" ENS: "yeah, well today the tubes are full of frogs and toads so it's extra. sorry, maybe come back later"

This is called the "censorship resistance tax". Don't want to pay it, just register your name on cb.id. 😬

@j4ck.eth
cb.id confuses me. i have CBW downloaded. why is it telling me this? have i already claimed my free profile? what IS cb.id vs ENS? i already have an ENS. do i need both? should i have both? *closes tab*

think of cb.id-type things as an extension of ENS. You don't need both. "censorship resistance tax" is actually a good summary. cb.id = free but ultimately controlled by coinbase (not necessarily bad, just worth noting) .eth = onchain, no admin, which means gas to change things both work. options are good!

caveat on "both work" being *in most places working on getting wider support for offchain names
