I’ve also been thinking about quitting Spotify. But I don’t think switching to Apple, YouTube, or Tidal is the answer. I’d rather go back to buying the music I listen to and actually getting the files, so I can download them and play them on whatever music player I want https://www.hearingthings.co/why-we-quit-spotify/

Saw a YouTube video with the title that released this week that said “the rise / return of pirating” 😂😅

Good call, I think. Since I came of age before the rise of streaming, buying and downloading the files (and/or ripping them from my CDs) has always been the norm for me. I use Roon to organize my music library. I've never used Spotify and I'm certainly not about to start now. Tried Qobuz for awhile but they didn't have much of the music I'm into. Bandcamp is my mainstay, and I use YouTube for things I can't find on Bandcamp.

Bandcamp has been a good place for us, can sell digital songs & albums / physical / merch and do listening sessions with the community

Are there any web3 streaming apps that are any good? Seems like a perfect use case. Fill up a wallet with X stablecoin tokens and they get automatically micropaid out per stream. Of course the problem is backcatalog/labels demanding huge cuts. But surely there could be a better SoundCloud?

Highly recommend. I’m currently thinking I’m headed back to CDs, but can’t find a decent portable disc player anymore so thats a bit of a problem. Thanks for the article share - checking it out now.

As an ‘old head’ from the mid-seventies I never stopped. I always got something for my money - even for live shows, because that was the cost, buying merch was a souvenir, extra love to an artist I listened to often. Hasn’t changed for me really, except newer artists have a tougher time vying for my attention.
