One thing that really helped me back in the day was in my routine I'd add 3 reps of) a 40 second hold of the bar where my arms were in an L shape - kind of like a deadhang, but arms in an L and my eyes were level with the bar. It was kind of torture, but after a while it made the muscle ups pretty doable... but I'm not actually sure why.
