you’re right about the reason, for sure.
GitHub’s success was the nail in the coffin.
I used bitbucket instead of GitHub for a while since i preferred mercurial but they just couldn’t keep up.

momentum, and parallel adoption between hardcore linux devs and the ruby community. if mercurial had enamored devs into building a github-like experience it would have ended up the victor
