How do people feel about the fragmentation of the Ethereum social layer occurring between here and Twitter? It's not ideal that Ethereum is now less represented on Twitter by all the bright minds that have moved here. At the same time, I want to see novel apps like this take off. It's a tough one...

Same end state as Ethereum not sending people on CNBC every week, more or less. Also, it did move from Reddit to Twitter once!

X / Twitter is a dying platform and I welcome alternatives, especially protocol-oriented ones like Farcaster. That said I still monitor both.

Bitcoin Talk --> Reddit --> Twitter --> Farcaster Every cycle the grifters become intolerable and the builders and dreamers move to a new space. It's creative destruction at the social layer I've greatly enjoyed my move to Farcaster

agree with this big time. there's a lot of value in having a single spot to come together. but i want to see novel (crypto based) apps actually gain DAUs! So far enjoying FC but missing the defi conversations which have not migrated at all yet AFAICT

Twitter was already in a downward spiral. Bright minds were already leaving or logging out, which makes your feed dumber, which drives away more bright minds and the cycle repeats It might have been better if they'd gone to a platform that wasn't a crypto ghetto but a crypto ghetto is better than nothing

Long term the Ethereum social layer has to exist on a permissionless decentralised protocol. If the Ethereum vision is maximally successful and becomes an important piece of global infrastructure, we can’t allow the social layer to exist on a platform where it can be manipulated by a single actor. 1

I feel like it's more nuanced than this. People are using both at varying levels and it doesn't have to mean entirely absent elsewhere. Also: ideas from Farcaster could be exported and uplevel everything. i.e. frames as an innovation on Open Graph standard could be used anywhere and that's a net positive.

i think the fragmentation has happened a few times before, from bitcointalk (‘13 cycle) -> Reddit (‘17 cycle) -> crypto Twitter (‘21 cycle). It’s almost like every cycle creates a new social hangout for crypto people.

I think most people use both, out of habit I go to twitter first but I enjoy coming to farcaster more, all the traders are on twitter though you wont see much trading conversation here which is good and bad at the same time.

I think it's natural for the Ethereum social layer to move to a platform built on top of the Ethereum ecosystem. I'd be concerned if it didn't.

The Ethereum community was always spread across multiple apps: Twitter, Reddit (ethfinance), discord, etc
