Looking for channel owners that spend at least 5 hours a week on growing and managing their channels.

I had a group of people like this last fall, but a bunch of those people no longer seem to be actively working on their channel.

Want to find the people that are *currently* committed to channels.

i stopped investing time in channels because they were de-prioritized. would happily reverse course if i knew it wouldn't be wasted effort

Roughly when did you feel they were deprioritized?

many many examples of you saying they're hard, didn't facilitate growth, and are no longer a priority. feel like you guys made a valiant effort post-farcon 2 that petered out around summer/fall 24'

Well we did a huge revamp push in fall 2024 -- and that removed mod work but most people didn't want to invest the time to keep growing them in the membership model.

WHAT’S HAPPENING WITH CHANNELS?

1. Channels aren’t going anywhere anytime soon

2. Our priority is growth; we’re working on a) improving onchain UX with frames + wallet (network differentiation) b) invites + rewards (increase daily actives users) c) protocol improvements to support new clients bringing their own users (increase daily actives users) d) creator onboarding (increase daily active users)

3. Channels, historically, have not driven growth; channels, however, have helped deepen engagement and retention for existing power users.

4. Given limited resources (i.e. focus), we don’t have near term plans to add features to channels.

5. However, nearly all aspects of channels are programmable via a) the protocol b) Warpcast open / free APIs. If there is demand, we may also prioritize making channel registration available API. Note: moving all channels metadata to the protocol is a lot of work that wouldn’t drive near-term growth.

Adding another data point here, not to pile on, but for additional context:
 
People really loved /brypto (https://farcaster.xyz/six/0xcfee39e6) and I was spending a decent amount of time posting in it, weeding bad posts, adding other mods / growing the community

But after reading your priorities update about ~2 months ago (https://farcaster.xyz/dwr.eth/0x81d19454), I decided not to spend more time on it because you flagged that it wasn't contributing to top-line growth, and as a result Merkle wouldn't be adding new features / were effectively putting it into maintenance mode

I'm not saying you're wrong to have made these decisions, just that channel apathy from owners is the logical outcome

There was no good solve to the spam / bot issue without requiring heavy moderation. But the pivot from the "tags" era of channels where anyone could cast to the "gated community" era of channels was rough, and required too much management via Cura or whatever else

You also transferred /product to me and I had a standing calendar invite through Q1 of this year where I spent ~20-30 mins every Friday going thru applications and inviting people. It just became untenable when there was no benefit to posting in channels -- the juice isn't worth the squeeze

We did the channels change in September and October. They weren't working before that. After the change, spam / moderation was solved but people stopped caring about them since we said you weren't getting a distribution boost. Some exceptions, but most people casting in channels were doing it because they wanted more visibility.

+1, would happily jump back into moderating /frontend (and plenty of other niches) knowing they will be well-supported technically and exposure-wise.

I'm with @nonlinear.eth - I stopped putting time into moderating and curating /slowcore-hq because channels were de-prioritized, and because we didn't have a sustainable economic model so we struggled with moderator attrition.  

I wrote a long post (pinned in the channel) about why the mods decided to put /slowcore-hq into extended hibernation.

It's a small cozy corner, but it's well-loved by its followers. 

I'd gladly invest time to revive it and develop a membership model for it if (as Jonny said) I knew it wouldn't be wasted effort.

also the uncertainty with what actually happens to the channels once they're in priority makes everyone less motivated

we have a group going about /design and it pretty much stopped with me personally not looking into it since mid last year maybe at all

So there was a disconnect between the people and the system they were participating in which means you need to repurpose how we are using these things and the feelings we have aboit these changes. I am actively working on /wethemmedia exploring mini apps related to content engagement
