search results on the internet are increasingly low trust. companies paying for rank companies gaming organic rankings paid promotions on X reddit comments posted by bots fake reviews companies taking down bad reviews with wrong google review claims I want to search and discover recommendations from people I trust, who have good taste and trade their brand trust for insincere endorsements. This was the original inspiration for @discove

trying to find the best AI tool for writing and somehow google, reddit, twitter, ... is like 10x less useful and trustworthy than a friend's recommendation

been thinking about this too. some sort of prediction market mechanism couldd be a possible solution, but the challenge is that these ranking/recommendation markets are subjective, there is no right or wrong deterministic event. plus there are some practical/bootstrap challenges first challenge is to get enough people to care about a topic, next is to have a community around it (subreddit/channels), then solve for some moderation/council system that holds the spirit of law together.

I had a whole arc in 2024 where I got sick of mining “best books of” lists for titles. They’re more vehicle for agenda than actual curation for the most part. Just exhausting So I just started reading the best selling books of all time I had some misses (Casino Royale, And Then There Were None) But it also led me to some of the best books of all time (The Godfather, The Name of the Rose, Shogun) Consumer spending is an underrated curation tool

people like me who try products and recommend things would never be down to tokenize my recs. great products sell themselves. i think finding a way to surface what apps I use or products I use is a better way but not sure how outside making them vote on it.
