This is Mark Rutte at his best. He has been the Prime Minister in the Netherlands for years and there the same behaviour, and if you distance yourself from him or go against him, he hugs you even harder. Btw, he and Israel seem to understand very well that Trump's ego needs to be stroked with superlatives to get something done with him.

I'm not too familiar with him a politician. I do know a few of the changes he's made in Holland that I don't agree with but I haven't been there in 20+ years and don't know the political environment.

There is already an agreement in principle for 5%. Not that I know anything about it, but I don't expect much exciting. Perhaps Spain will be difficult before they agree.

That makes total sense with the way Russia/Ukraine is playing out. The only Canadian defense issue that could arise in the short to medium term is in related to the northwest passage. No one really wants to hurt us and we can typically rely on the US for a lot of our defense needs, though that relationship has been strained by the trade war.
