I know the UN has no teeth, but I'm glad they are saying this.
Now that Trump has revealed his plan to use Venezuelan oil for the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and for the military, this post takes on new meaning. If this whole thing works out the way he is hoping, the petrodollar continues AND the oil that the USA doesn't need (but wants) will be acquired.
Let's be clear: This is not because the USA needs oil, this is because the USA wants to see the continuation of the petrodollar. Venezuela was about to start trading oil in a basket of BRICS currencies and the USA cannot afford for the largest oil reserves/supply in the world to disconnect from the dollar.

While GDP can be misleading and this sort of way to measure things is reliant on a capitalist framework, there really isn't a better way to compare economies, that I have seen. Naturally prosperity, health, happiness, and overall well-being are different things entirely.
