to my designers/creatives, how important do you think it is to learn some aspect of motion and interaction design? seems like so many things are almost calling for designers to have some level of familiarity with it across job types

Yeah i think it's important to learn some part of it ofcourse i feel it gives you upperhand in some part of job you are doing and helps you develop the sense of how things work in this space which definitely helps you, also now there are soo many tools which which has leveled down the learning curve for motion.

i think it's a great skill set to have under your belt. you'll definitely have an extra edge over folks who don't know it. also, when you're working w motion designers, it's helpful to have some insight into their workflow too. so it'll make your life easier in a way, when it comes to prepping files to be sent over for an animation. less back and forth.

By bringing it to life with motion or a prototype, you can communicate and convey your message more effectively. Others might not be able to see your idea from your point of view; in turn, you'll increase your opportunities / approval from your stakeholders.

It doesn’t hurt to know about it! Even if you are a traditionalist who only wants to do design, it would allow you to collaborate with others better and understand what’s possible or best practices.
