I woke up thinking about her today. While our relationship is complicated, I would never stop loving her. She was my first love and it is because of her I carry this colorful swing when I walk and this flavorful tone when I talk. My values don’t come from religion but from her people. She gave me a sense of community and a sense of togetherness and that’s probably what I miss the most. And while she is not perfect, I know she is doing the work and that change for the better is coming. One day I will see her free, and my family she shall receive with the same rights we all deserve. It will be a celebration with an air of abundance, safety, and progress.
