An update on protocol priorities going into 2025. 

We think a lot of interesting things are going to be built onchain soon. Farcaster should be the programmable and credibly neutral social network that brings users, developers and blockchains together. 

But what does this mean tangibly?

New on Warpcast: channel tabs

The home screen now has tabs for your channels

Which channels will appear at tabs?
- Channels that will appear as tabs
    - favorited channels
    - channels where you are a member

How does tab ordering work?
    - 1st tab — will always be Home, not customizable
    - 2nd tab — will always be your top favorited channel, customizable
    - 3 through 15 — algorithm based on unread status

How many channel tabs?
- Limited to 15 tabs

How do I favorite a channel?
- Favorite channels on channel pages, your list of favorite channels will appear in the side menu

How do I manage my favorites?
- Re-order your favorites in the side menu via drag and drop. The channel at the top of your favorites will be the 2nd tab.

Honestly, it fully makes sense - it's just that as someone with limited time/resources I'm reading every microsignal I can to try and weigh what to spend more energy on and channels is one of my big question marks. 

I appreciate the better discovery tabs in warpcast and generally remain hopeful for the ecosystem!

Channels are in a stable enough spot right now. Still have some iteration to do. But I don't think of them as a core developer lego quite yet (relative to all of the other priorities).

No plans to deprecate. We're adding channel-specific onboarding. But has to be bottoms up from a growth standpoint.

this is true, but the point of testing centralized channels via warpcast was explicitly to see if they would be a useful primitive to add to the protocol

based on this + previous messaging it implies that they don't have conviction there and anything they don't have conviction on i don't think survives for long

channels are mostly not dev building blocks so not very inside the devcon scope?

There's no way for a channel to be a community hub right now.

If the Merkle team had conviction on communities being their growth factor, they'd build ways for that to be possible, but they don't, so they won't.
