Gift link to very interesting Atlantic piece about (scary) publicly almost invisible ways USA and Russia with T&P are getting closer together https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2025/07/putin-trump-russia-ukraine/683414/?gift=hVZeG3M9DnxL4CekrWGK39-xlIWIi7VGJhmSFSeMpZM&utm_source=copy-link&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=share

Honestly this is probably true but I'll never ever believe any single word Anne Applebaum says. She's a warhawk herself. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2024/jan/29/why-do-americas-liberal-hawks-attack-russia-while-giving-israel-a-free-pass

I mean, she's also a Polish citizen, married to the current MFA etc., so this particular piece is probably motivated by the idea of “I don't want my restored mansion to be bombed” rather than “I want the U.S. to bomb everyone”.

But nothing in there is much of a surprise, and it wasn't exactly Anne Applebaum who forced Trump to side with Russia so many times that it'd take a lot of time to list them all now; my favourite episode of that story is Russian propagandist getting excited about the future U.S-Russia alliance. (which is rather unsettling coupled with the fact that tuning into Russian media has been usually a better way to know what's going to happen than, for example, visiting the American part of Twitter) https://cepa.org/article/plotting-a-russian-us-war-on-satanic-europe/
