not enough people talk about how uneasy tech events can feel if you’re gender non-conforming

most of the time you won’t find people like you in these spaces, forcing code switching – ultimately contributing to a flatter expression of identity and interests

this was quite surprising after years at creative spaces where amplifying your individuality is expected

would be interested to hear from others (women, lgbtq+) on how you all found this

early-ish trans experience in tech is like,

i don’t feel comfortable going to events specifically for women just yet

but i also don’t feel comfortable going to the average tech event that has a mostly male makeup

i turn product vision into cultural signal

yess found some lgbt ones for these coming weeks for pride!!

For events for women. There’s nicher ones like queer women in tech or lgbtq women in tech that could be attractive to you. And it’s pride month so for sure there’s some going on. 

Re: regular tech events, like I mentioned before, if you are not male presenting you may experience microagressions. But you get use to it and grow resilient so, at your own pace!
