Ultra-processed food as a percentage of household purchases by EU country. @keccers.eth this is why I said northern EU countries (especially UK) cannot be taken as an example for EU food quality. (Malta is strongly influenced by UK colonisation)

Obesity is not strictly correlated with the quality of food. There are a lot of lazy people in Italy who eat junk food (we like mcdonalds too). The percentages of the map are for what people buy to consume food at home.

I know, but the original discussion was prompted by the statistics regarding obesity. And it’s hard to infer much from one map published by The Guardian seven years ago. (my point is that it’s a bit more complicated than just culinary culture, as clearly socioeconomic factors are also at play here)
