This one for /inquiry and @resipsa I pretty much reject the outlandish claims of remote viewing, OBEs, etc. but am willing to be “just skeptical” of the lower claims of heightened awareness, anesthetic effects, etc. A cursory search doesn’t turn up any peer-reviewed paper

for heightened awareness/focus, the leap seems more palatable. we already know that certain brainwaves are correlated with default mode network activation. we also know DMN activity is reduced when we meditate. i don’t know if biaural beats directly influences brainwaves, but if it is conducive to meditation perhaps there is a positive correlation waiting to be drawn with DMN activation that results in heightened awareness. for something more out there like remote viewing/OBE— i’m open to assumptions being challenged, but i don’t have any basis to remotely start believing it (similar to where The Telepathy Tapes leaves me). discussions about OBE are very common. it’s one thing to feel “out of this world”— that your wider perception, including sense of self, is altered. this can be explained away by various psychoactive mechanisms. OBE is different in suggesting that your environmental perception is unaltered, but the sense of self changes in isolation. possible but maybe not plausible

I've seen 0 compelling evidence of remote viewing. Seems like weird Cold War reflexive research.

If you strip it of those claims, then it's just a guided meditation with a soundtrack. And there's a lot of research on that. (although the outlandish hype is probably important for the placebo effect)
