i remember learning about the bizarre things women would (whether voluntarily or via coercion) do to their bodies to be perceived as desirable like elongate their necks as a kid and thinking how strange it’s nice that people just get to be themselves now

I think so? You would think it's still part of the Disney movie message canon, so I wouldn't be surprised if it still exists. Though I bet there are quite a few more who use it cynically nowadays or just pay lip service.
