You will come across this situation when the backlight is too strong, or you have parts of your picture that are too bright and some are "normal" but compared to the bright part, too dark. Cameras are not our eyes. They are not perfect. They try to "normalize" or balance the picture for both the bright and non-bright parts. So they have to compromise... You have two choices: accept this (which is perfectly fine), or tap/focus on the dark part and most phones/cameras will isolate this part to be a bit more visible (but then the sky is "blown out" or too bright, again, totally fine). Or go the third option, which takes a bit more work, but then there are no compromises. In photography, this is called highlights and shadows. Any photo editing app (even the mobile ones) can fix this (blown out highlights or dark shadows) in a matter of seconds. Could come in hand if there's some photos you really like, but wish you could see a bit more details. It's really not that much work.
