Farcaster feels split, the elite crowd (Coinbase mafia, VCs, Ivy grads) and the rest and the folks without products, clout, or notable affiliations. With Degen app, I want to build something more open and raw. It’ll feel spammy, sure, but that’s the tradeoff. Not trying to over-moderate or curate for elites.

@jacek I think the " it'll feel spammy, but that's okay" is a terrible take. Also, I have to hard disagree that farcaster is a Have versus the have-not ecosystem. There are countless users who are not in the OG status that have built themselves incredible followings, channels, and holdings. I guess if you want to call it a have versus have not, that's fair, but frame it appropriately. The people who are thriving HAVE put in effort and work to get there. The others simply HAVE NOT. To be clear, low effort, AI generated, or spam type posts do not classify as putting in effort. I have a significant Degen in holding in cold storage, but I've got to say, your takes lately aren't the @jacek that launched degen.

While I’m concerned abo this part of your response that feels a bit like a generalization because it’s doesn’t seem fully genuine to say that that all other users who haven’t been able to thrive aren’t doing so because they haven’t put in the effort, I can agree with the fact that this seems like a bit of a departure from the musings of the person who brought degen into this world. @jacek , best I can say with respect to this is that you need to hold on to whatever conviction you have to move forward, but try to hold on to that conviction while not letting the naysayers, VCs, and others be a detrimental factor to this plan. I’m intrigued to see what happens, while I’m concerned about the direction that some of the comments are going. But that doesn’t mean I’m not optimistic. I’m cautiously optimistic. With a side of faith. Stay strong. I think all of this is a good conversation to have.

I just feel that posting selfies, food pictures, AI responses, low effort replies, anything like that, no matter how much you do, it is not putting in effort. Now, there are places for all of that on farcaster, but if that's all you're posting, you're not likely to go anywhere. It's an incredible time that we're all going through right now, we have nearly an infinite amount of resources at our disposal. Create some artwork, Open up a coding agent and make something cool, provide to the community without any expectation of getting anything in return. That's the most important part, pure extractors get left behind.

True. You’re right. I just hate to generalize and say that anyone who didn’t create work, or anyone who didn’t build and app, is extracting. That is not to say that people are out there purely extracting. It seems like there are people who spend more time discussing ā€œnon crypto/onchain/blockchainā€ aspects of their lives, that could fall into the ā€œhave notsā€ side of things. It’s an interesting balance.

While I agree there are people building amazing things and that that takes effort, I also don't think we should be giving people a hard time if they are on this social network just to be social. People are generally very nice on this platform and it devoid of some of the things that make Twitter intolerable these days. I have noticed a lot more people in my inbox that are basically just begging for money lately though. Don't recall much of that in the past.
