Proton has recently improved their mobile apps by a lot in a short period of time. The secret? Abandoning React in favour of SwiftUI for iOS and Jetpack for android with a backend built in Rust. Blog post linked below. I’ve been critical of apps like Farcaster for choosing to build the front end in React. Not only do I find its limitations glaring, and see it standing out on iOS as a clearly non-native experience, but unsurprisingly, Proton has found it is actually faster and more stable to build with native front end tools. https://proton.me/blog/next-generation-proton-mail-mobile-apps

The way Ice Cubes and Mona are approaching UX in SwiftUI with user-centric interactions makes me enjoy using Mastodon more than Bluesky or Farcaster even though, it has less good content over all. It can’t be said enough that building native experiences is far more worthwhile than investing time in clunky, messy, or otherwise overly opinionated (especially when those opinions add nothing of value to the user) paradigms.

Perfect example of how good this feature is. I have a MacBook Air M2 that I’ve been experimenting with Asahi Linux on, so this article is perfectly suited to my taste. On Mona, I scroll, and it’s already in English, so I see it and engage with it. Here is what it looks like when I turn off autotranslate (which is also how it would look on Mastodon, Ice Cubes, Ivory, etc). The moral of the story: build features that genuinely improve the experience.

Like is it really too much to ask for Farcaster for iOS to look like this?

Would love to see a renaissance of user theming for all manner of apps, with social at the forefront. https://bsky.app/profile/solinus.neocities.org/post/3ln6yzas6ws2w

Sometimes I like when my ad prefs lead me to teams doing cool work. Minting is foreign to gen pop. I’m curious what UX will connect minting to “use this to tailor the web to me”. When the UX of AI is being led by interactive models, figuring this out will pair well with digital ownership and interoperability.

Does anyone else choose their gas station by the simplicity of the UI? One button for regular, one button for full, pump the gas and go inside and pay the man with beautiful paper money. No touchscreen, no attempt to make me download an app, my cognitives are so unloaded, lovely

Figure since Iv been doing UX/UI design for 8+ years and still continue to help protocols design beautiful/efficient UI's...I would handle this channel here and create a community of designers that can collaborate together and help each other in various projects and ventures! Feel free to post about anything UX/UI!
