::saboteur management:: when i was in high school a lady told me “some things worth doing are worth doing mediocrely”. it takes some wisdom to know which things are worth what, but to think everything can be perfect under-appreciates the scarcity of time. take the permission to not let perfection turn into complete debilitation because otherwise that’s actually pretty bad.

things that someone with certain obsessive compulsive tendencies might notice: 1. in corporate America people are looking for “maybe a little sloppy but mostly pretty good” and if your stuff is perfect you are probably not efficient enough 2. practicing attorneys generally do not write memos as well as law students. it is not a knock on practicing lawyers— when rent is due the obsession over how elegant your IRAC format is or hyper-paranoia around whether you italicized the right commas are not real concerns

PMF is not just for founders. The older a corporate employee gets, the more crucial internal PMF is to justify their existence and salary. I’ve had many bright colleagues just burn out or wash out because their skills were no longer the perfect fit, and it gets exponentially harder to pivot with age and comp
