people are massively leaving portuguese system
people didn’t even wait for the 10 year decision to pass
unless you have european tax / passport already portugal is one of the worst places you can go in terms of bureaucracy

weirdly enough (or not)
Lisbon's events never attracted me
with only a couple exceptions (hi @interface)
they all feel off, best word to describe would be - corposlop
and somehow I'm most of the times never able to make it to them anyways
like for this one I'll be abroad for the first time in many years when it comes back to Lisbon
ETHGlobal also, after 4+ hacks, is a conveyor funded by crypto corps / VC money for hackers to have 36 hours of free food and fun
but this one could be net positive but also super rare for Lisbon to host

I find it almost funny the whole country is celebrating liberdade day out here
while debt is not improving, govt services are delayed by years even, tax rules getting tightened etc
most country’s assets are sold, essential workers strike every few months
hormuz closure also a ticking bomb exposing energy negligence
housing at all time highs and highest cost per median salary
I could go on and on but is it really worth celebrating? is the whole nation stuck in that liberdade historical snapshot and never able to do anything as big or bigger going forward?

found out yesterday that folks can get mortgage here
with a big discount on the tax thats saving easy north of $10k
but
you have to legally sign that you will reside in the place for at least 6 years
basically bureaucratic handcuffs to stay in Portugal against your will
and government and banks end up making far more than this amount in that time
or else they may even take your apartment or force you to pay the whole tax

curious if it'll be able toscale from working at just one cafe
funny enough this is the barista I've been ordering from for a while at his previous job lol
and that 94 cafe is founded by a very young guy under 25
