I just voted to stay and build a techno-optimist community with the Network School Farcaster core team. We’re going to implement a Singapore-like code to ensure positive-sum behavior within this app, as distinct from the hostility of most social media. It’s an experiment in decentralized digital democracy, where everyone who’s here has freely opted in. Most tech people don’t hate taxes bc we’re greedy. We hate them bc we spend all of our time eliminating friction for people — trying to add value to their life, building experiences worthy of choice. If we don’t, we die. And then we try a Government service. It is full of friction, opaque, kafkaesque. And no one cares. No one is accountable. It’s insulting.

If government felt like it actually provided a service, it wouldn't feel so repellant to write multi-thousand dollar tax checks. If politicians actually believed they were servants, they wouldn't be debasing themselves for anything and everything that will keep them in office. If citizens are forced to suffer enough, these obvious facts won't be worth tolerating anymore. For now, in many countries, most of our lives feel just good enough that it's not worth the effort to change the nature of government. (I think AI disruptions will change this calculus, pretty quickly.)

I liked Snowden's talk at the bitcoin conference. It reminded me of bitcoiners version of Vitalik's recent political blog. A good reminder to bitcoiners that bitcoin doesn't fix everything despite what all the previous speakers told them. Including concentration of power and the erosion of privacy by AI and large corporations, Bitcoin actually makes the privacy part worse as it currently is... ENFJ activist ENTJ founder Personality is underdiscussed. Using Myers-Briggs terminology, many social justice activists are NF of some kind. Many in tech are NT. It took me a while to understand NFs. They start with what they *feel*, while an NT starts with what they *think*.
