Since covid-ish time period, fashion and sneakers have gone mainstream. That means your favorite brand back then, is probably being whored-out to any buyer with a cc number. Same goes for Supreme being sold online at Urban Outfitters. What does this mean? Buy the popular stuff if you’re feeling it..but also take time and search for a new young brand that speaks to you in multiple ways..especially if you expect to stand out at all.

If you’re on Sup by @supinc one of the fun experiments I shipped this past week is called Aure, a personal stylist that captures energy and helps you build your personal style. it knows nearly 40+ brands from archive to accessible (yohji to our legacy), reads your occasion and mood, and gives you one committed recommendation — not three hedged options. closet-first, always. if you’re on sup, try it. if you’re not, would you want a stylist like this in your replies? thinking about bringing it to farcaster. s/o to @nebula for the invite

Brands in the West are losing the plot. Leadership in the West is failing shareholders by making siloed decisions disconnected from consumers. Saks OFF 5th shutting down e-commerce to “drive store traffic” is 1995 logic. Saks Fifth Avenue pulling off Amazon; one of its own investors: because it “hurts the brand” is pure 1985 nostalgia. Meanwhile IKEA is closing stores in China to go lean and online-first. Consumers already changed. Leadership in the west didn’t listen. Business decisions require data, not emotion.

I love PMFW so much. They have the fun. The designs from LV, Dior, and YSL are so whimsy.

I'll never forget watching Valentino: The Last Emperor at the Angelika with @soybean54 and him whispering almost 80% through the doc, "This is a mockumentary, right?" Valentino was outrageous, specific, and so completely himself it caused others to rethink reality. May his name be a blessing.

Sitting in traffic, I’m looking at a “Five Below” store on the corner of 42nd Street and 8th Avenue, a prime retail intersection three blocks from New York’s Fashion District, now occupied by a discounter, while Saks Fifth Avenue has filed for bankruptcy. It’s 2026. The “Made in USA” narrative is largely propaganda, most Americans have consistently chosen cheap goods over domestic production.
