I watched Gattaca for the first time yesterday and really enjoyed it. I have been really excited for faster DNA sequencing and engineering possibilities, but now I'm wondering how do we avoid creating the world of Gattaca?

Fine-tuning Llama 3.1, researchers at MBZUAI built BiMediX2, an Arabic-English VLM for medical use cases that excels in both text and visual tasks — including interpreting medical images from X-Rays, CT scans, MRIs and more. The models and datasets will be available publicly on Hugging Face. https://www.threads.net/@aiatmeta/post/DDsBgdjSZOu?xmt=AQGzc7UBV0Z5GiAXQKSFZyLQ87pn-t223H0kUIU7zzX0vw

GDDA v0.21 XP utilizing ARPA's Subatomic Investigation Engine. 🧬🔍 Two agents working together to analyze DNA, RNA, PROTEIN sequences, or fasta files, providing an in-depth report on the specimen. Fast rev comps, transcription, translation, anomaly and k-mer analysis, homology based on 3 public databases and datasets and a patent analyser to check for provided sequence in published patents. Can you see this as the backbone for a biosecurity play?

"The bridge recombinase mechanism, a precise and powerful tool to recombine and rearrange DNA in a programmable way. Going far beyond programmable genetic scissors like CRISPR, the bridge recombinase mechanism enables scientists to specify not only the target DNA to be modified, but also the donor material to be recognized, so they can insert new, functional genetic material, cut out faulty DNA, or invert any two sequences of interest" https://scitechdaily.com/a-word-processor-for-genes-scientists-unveil-fundamentally-new-mechanism-for-biological-programming/

Bridge editing seems like an incredible breakthrough. If anyone wants to go deep on synbio sci fi, I highly recommend the book Change Agent by Daniel Suarez. https://x.com/patrickc/status/1805996143228375263

What do people think of Nebula for DNA sequencing? Being able to download all 300GB and reanalyze later, privately, sounds very attractive. https://nebula.org/whole-genome-sequencing-dna-test/

There is a less known bug in a gene sequence, more specifically in an olfactory receptor called OR6A2, where if you have it, apparently some veggies taste like soap :D

The process involves genetically engineering white blood cells called T cells to create what’s known as chimeric antigen receptor (or CAR) T cells. These specialized cells recognize and attack a specific cellular target. https://www.inverse.com/health/quest-reprogram-immune-cells-anti-aging-remedy
