It has been 3 days since @pichi cast... I agree that tipping rings - and any "money laundering with extra steps" - is not different from this new "token creation" on the degen chain. It is the end of degen moderation, right? Cashing the allowance out - is as good as tipping right now. Right? I can be mistaken - and happy to correct my misunderstanding. Until then, let's face reality: skipping the tipping is easy and a fair game now. Already farmers get 10-50x more degen from their allow, than I get using my allow for tipping quality casts and playing the long social game. With the "token creation," everyone can accumulate faster and stake more degen for more allow, while still profiting a lot. Slowly, the farmers can take over the poll. So now I divide my allow. 50% still for tipping the great casts, 50% for token accumulation. That way I can also buy more allow later. Or exit, if the FC/tipping will be deprioritized even more. I'm a writer. I want degen to succeed, but FC and tipping are important to me.

Looks like the rings will dissipate without us needing to do anything. Tipping rings are just money laundering with extra steps. Now they can just cash out directly. *grabs popcorn*

I have a double observation. 1) Compared to season 6 it seems like season 7 to leaderboard is far better. 2) We only disqualified two casts from receiving tips in season 7 thus far. Does it mean we won already? 'was not too hard 🎩

Interesting @mazmhussain's comments. He is talking about bots and spam, but I apply it also to farming, t4t, and all the free-riding airdrop strategies. So you can do it on big established platforms or the new, small, more fragile ones. In the first case, it is like "shoplifting from a global conglomerate that treats it as an accounting write-off", but in the second case it is like "shoplifting from a mom-and-pop store trying to get started and whose business and well-being you may genuinely aim to undermine". Farcaster/Degen is the second case. Regardless of all the defensive talk in defense of "fun" (?) and "decentralization" (?) I have no problem dedegening ppl who free-ride our small platform. Because - as Murtaza said - "there is just something particularly antisocial about it".

Imagine @dwr going harder against spammers & low-effort farmers than a token project & its nice token holders who want to grow the token value, add value to the social network & its real creators but actually pay spammers to spam. Read his latest casts. It’s time to write down & enforce basic rules for tip participants. It’s not about pissing people off or differentiating among farming rings, bots, individual farmers. It’s about making things better. Yes, farming got a bit better, we should keep the fun .. 🤐 but I’m still looking for more people that genuinely tip, for people to start tipping real $degen, for many more real Degens to join the chat, Degens to go hard on existing Degen apps & onboarding the next wave of apps! Farcaster, Degen (Base) are in an amazing position. Would be a pity to not leverage this now and make channels, conversations, user xp & Token 10x better by elevating quality over spam - AND then make it another 10x better with many more users contributing content.

TIPPING SUPER RING Some accounts on the degen leaderboard accumulated ~100k degen. Among them: @10poon @archangels @crypto-david @akia0607 @kknd @wlsdnrdl0217 @luckysun @unansrb @support1. The whole ring includes ~20 members What do they do? - members mostly tip each other, under every cast you find mostly tips from the other ring members - the tips are big, and not correlated with the quality of the cast - the amount of tipped degen is similar (mostly 1-2k degen tips last season, 400-600 degen this season) - as proved by a simultaneous amounts reduction, they communicate and coordinate to farm degen Some degen mods including me are trying to take back that wasted degen which clearly is NOT used to "empower the community, distribute funds, and reward quality content creators" For the whole season we can regain as much as ~10 mln degen just on this super ring alone. We are asking all degen mods to take a look at the ring members' tipping practices, and help dedegen, if you find those practices unacceptable
