I think this is great. It sucks a bit since I already own Final Cut, and I won’t benefit much as I have Creative Cloud through work and personally prefer Affinity for most tasks anyway, but…
What this does is create more competition. Affinity just did this by offering a free alternative to the photo, vector, and layout offerings from Adobe with AI features, and Canva Pro coming as an add-on for around $120 a year.
Now Apple is saying, we’ll give you photo, video, music, and productivity for $129 with first-class iPad support. And again, that’s not all; they’re offering it to students for $29/year!!!
Creative Cloud for students is about $30 a month. Canva doesn’t even offer student pricing unless your university provides a licensed version to you.
So what I see is new competition around freemium, dramatically lower-priced bundling, and massive discounts for students. Win-win-win!
