The concept of a thing can get in the way of knowing it

Because when you think you know something (via the mind’s conception), you don’t give it the same attention in the present. Nothing is static, so the latter is the only way to truly know something

this is why NYC culture, and other localized cultures, fell apart izo. at some point people started coming here thinking they already knew the place, ready to have their nyc experience in spite of the real culture that existed here. and eventually that idea became more real than the reality, and supplanted it
