Do you hate tariffs or do you hate Trump? I dont care about either of them but if i was American, i’d be happy if other countries paid more to sell their stuff on my soil, to my people. Of course the consequences may be bad so it’s ok to be contrary, but still.. they could also be good.. nobody knows that🤷🏼♂️

So hers my question: If the better outcome long term is to produce at home, why didn’t businesses choose that route when given the chance? seems to fly in the face of freedoms of choice

Because it was cheaper to produce in abroad.. Italy has done the same, outsourced everything.. then sold everything.. now we are literally nobody.. economically speaking.. But oh we have nice sea and good food..

this 100x its not about absolute isolation, but balancing things to make each country as much self-dependent as possible

Agreed. Countries should be as independent as possible. That’s how you avoid conflict.. If i dont need anything from you and viceversa, we’ll likely never fight😅
