The right gear makes it not a big deal: heattech, windbreakers, gloves, etc. My main NYC winter hack: wear heattech under your clothes always.

wind is the real enemy in winter here, but apart from that, it's actually quite nice.. less people out, crisp/quiet.. if you can get out midday, it's slightly warmer & often the *perfect* temp for workouts.

Windbreakers, gloves, and some sort of athletic tights get you 80% of the way there. Heattech undershirt and beanie get you the remaining 20% I think

Hat and gloves go a long way. Also, Central Park or Prospect park are better than running alongside the river (just for the Winter) . The wind really chills you when it is cold.

Don’t be afraid of winter running. It’s totally doable, and enjoyable, with the right gear. Just like skiing. Also, NYRR has a bunch of great NYC winter events if you’re into racing. They’ve written this that you might find helpful. https://www.nyrr.org/run/photos-and-stories/2023/winter-running-myths
