I'm generally very impressed by llama3, but this (from 70B) is a clear phail imo.

I think this is an unfair hypothetical — You might assume options like these to be mutually exclusive but it’s not required, specially when you haven’t specified if it’s multi-select or what the question is Question could be “what regions is Brazil in?” for example

from what we are told at school llama3 is right. at least in Italy. we don't have the concept of geographic LATAM. we have America, divided into North America and South America. maybe because "latin" has a different meaning to us.

yeah, I see what you're getting at, but Americas is already conventionally defined.

My favourite test for new models is asking it to write 3 sets of 2 equations each (X and Y), keeping all constants and solutions as integers <20. It's hard to guess, but easy if you think about it first. In my experience, all models almost always fail at this.

Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and Chile fit under both Americas and LATAM because “LATAM” is Latin language speaking countries that are located in the broader “Americas” Hence “Latin” + “America”

Her logic is sound if based on United States taught geography, which she is using, as she defines it in her argument Americas = NORTH (USA + Canada + Mexico), CENTRAL (7 “LATAM” countries), SOUTH (remaining “LATAM” countries) The Caribbean is separate, although geographically it would fit under Central

I’m sorry, but I just couldn’t see the error here. Unless you specifically determine that “Americas” means USA and Canada, yes, LATAM would be considered as a subset of Americas, because the Continents are called “North America”, “Central America” and “South America”. LATAM is South+Central+Mexico
